Highly talented and experienced candidates are sought for this role. They will need to demonstrate the functional skills required to be successful in this position as well as have the demeanor and leadership style to work in an environment where 100% of the focus is on a single customer.

This position is based in Grand Prairie, Texas (D/FW metro) and will report to the Vice President of Qual Pac. The Director of Operations (DOO) will oversee 2 co-pack facilities in the DFW - one focused primarily on beverage customers (160,000 sq ft) and one focused primarily on primary food lines (100,000 sq ft). Each of the current facility Plant Managers will report into this position. Each facility has line capacity for ~200 employees, including contract labor, so, indirectly this position is responsible for the professional well-being of ~ 400 people.

Responsibilities

As a member of the company's senior management team, the DOO will provide leadership and direction to two facilities for full operations including supply chain and logistics coordination efforts and will have responsibility for achieving operational goals as well as contributing strategically to the development of the company's business with the Client. This person will be focused on the welfare and success of the enterprise on a daily and long-term basis. Functionally, this position is responsible for total operational management across the facilities including:
  • Directly managing 2 Plant Managers and ensuring the successful structure and processes for Shipping & Receiving, Production, Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Equipment Maintenance, Planning / Scheduling, Inventory Management, Purchasing and Billing.
  • Managing and implementing change effectively to ensure continuous improvement and exceptional levels of quality control and quality assurance across the network.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key client stakeholders, including: client management and quality teams, client product managers and client logistics managers.
  • Coordinating with Sales executives and Sales Management for account growth and retention, including supporting quoting new projects and accounts.
  • Developing and managing operational performance and service metrics and initiatives to achieve the agreed warehouse operations, quality, safety, customer satisfaction and revenue and cost performance goals.
  • Working with the divison's head of Financial Operations on facility budgeting, planning, forecasting, inventory, purchasing and billing.
  • Reviewing packaging material, equipment and service providers to achieve maximum value for money without diluting quality or customer service levels.
  • Leveraging and partnering with the Director of Facilities Management for facility assets, projects and maintenance.
  • Work to incorporate and standardize best practices to utilize the most efficient IT systems, line technology, equipment, floor layouts, and processes to contribute to the optimization of each facility.

Candidate Qualifications

Deep experience with multi-warehouse operations management is a prerequisite for candidates, followed by excellent financial acumen and key customer management skills. Specifically, the successful candidate will have experience in positions of increasing responsibility within manufacturing/co-packing operations appropriate to the food and beverage industries. He/she will possess expertise in best practices and continuous improvement in a large-volume, fast-turnaround packaging environment.

Candidates ideally will have contract packaging operations experience in relavent food and beverage products as well as experience and knowledge of food and beverage production and packaging.

A note on cultural fit and adaptability: The ideal candidate must be able to readily relate to and earn credibility with a variety of key stakeholders including Pro Pac and Qual Pac management members including CEO, CFO, Controller, and VP QP Ops, VP Sales; Director of Facilities Management; QP Maintenance Manager, the 2 Plant Managers and their teams; Staffing agency management and Onsite personnel; and Client Co-pack management members. The ideal candidate will put company-first and operate in a fashion that recognizes and improves the collective good for all.

Management / Technical Experience

The ideal candidate has:
  • A minimum of 15 years of successful management experience encompassing all facets of operations including: (supply chain planning, inventory management, shipping, receiving, production, quality, safety, food saftey, purchasing, and billing). Working knowledge of 3PL and Fulfillment operations is desirable.
  • Worked and managed single and multi-plant operations for at least five years with extensive hands-on floor operations and equipment accumen.
  • Proven track record managing floor operations with robotic equipment / lines; 24/7 operations or 3 shifts is desireable.
  • Experience with Food Safety regulations, including HACCP, GMP, AIB, SQF, BRC and related standards to ensure compliance and client performance expectations are met across all sites is a must.
  • A proven track record of structured people management and development of people leaders and high-performing teams.
  • Must be highly proficient with ERP / WMS systems to manage performance metrics and meet client and internal performance and reporting requirements.

Education Credentials
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or relevant field.
