Job description

  • To participate in the planning and implementation of the developmental guidance and counseling
program, in relation to the needs of the students being served.

  • To provide guidance, counseling, coordination, consultation, referral and delivery of informational
services.

  • To assist in promoting parent involvement, program services, program and curriculum support where
appropriate
Qualifications: 
Approved by the State Department of Education as a School Social Worker or School Counselor 
Valid Michigan teacher's certificate with a School Counseling (NT) endorsement or School Counselor
License (SCL) or Preliminary School Counselor License (PSCL) or Temporary School Counselor License
(TSCL) 
Possession of a Bachelor Degree or higher degree. 
Prefer one year of experience in school counseling which can include a counseling internship 
Knowledge about best practices for engaging students and families with emotional and behavioral
concerns 

Excellent Public Speaking and Presentation Skills 
Strong Interpersonal Skills 
Attention to Detail 
Crisis Intervention Skills 
Technological Skills

Delivering core curriculum lessons aligned to the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors that equip students to
become positive members of their school and community. 
Monitoring students’ overall academic performance and collaborating with staff members to develop
necessary academic supports for students. 
Exhibit a passion for working with youth in a school environment 
Demonstrate proficiency with usage and integration of technology 
Demonstrate knowledge of state K-12 career readiness curriculum 
Understand PBIS, MTSS, ACEs and Restorative Practices 
Able to develop Social Emotional Curriculum 
Work well with students, parents, staff, outside stakeholders and colleagues 
Willing and able to collaborate with district to unify programming K-12 
Able to positively and professionally respond to the individual needs of students 
Able to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sounds judgement, common sense, and
a calm demeanor 
Adheres to district and school rules and procedures 
Conducts behavior to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism 
Maintains regular predictable in-person attendance 
The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 35 pounds such as books and other materials 
Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect school counselors 
Provide direct services to individual students for emotional and behavioral support 

Participate in problem-solving teams or assist individual teachers to consider student-specific data,
brainstorm possible strategies and interventions, and develop a plan of action to address a student-
specific need 
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families 
Perform other duties as assigned by the School Principal.
