At Roto, we're pioneers in redefining attraction-based experiences. With a mission to create genuine human connections in physical environments, we've spent two decades crafting extraordinary and engaging experiences for museums, zoos, aquariums, and attractions. Collaborating with renowned institutions in the cultural sector, we push the limits of possibility through nature, play, creativity, digital technology, and beyond.
To be considered, applicants must: - Provide a portfolio/work samples demonstrating your relevant design experience.
- Be willing to relocate to the Columbus, Ohio, area.
Key Responsibilities - Create multisensory environments and interactives using sound, light, media, vibration, and the innate human sense of playfulness for ages 2 to 102.
- Design custom interactive and immersive environments, blending A/V, media technology, graphics, and cutting-edge electromechanical user inputs.
- Organize and develop exhibition floor plans that create a bespoke visitor journey, in flat CAD and 3D model form.
- Collaborate with others to invent engaging physical encounters with science, art, history and/or nature content, leveraging human emotions like humor, curiosity, pathos and drama to deliver a memorable experience.
- Develop an original design language that seamlessly integrates interiors, structures, graphics, and theming, from concept to engineered detail drawings for fabrication.
- Assist Roto's production department in the physical construction, fabrication, assembly, and installation of the exhibits you design.
- Collaborate with Roto's immersive media department to implement highly imaginative, interactive technology-based experiences, including those using gesture sensing, VR/AR, AI, and other leading technologies.
Qualifications: - Mastery of Adobe Suite, Sketchup, AutoCAD, and Microsoft applications.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in design, architecture, or a related field.
- Experience in exhibit design, immersive experiences, or related fields preferred.
- Fearless creativity and a knack for solving complex design challenges.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey your ideas and collaborate with your team.
- Driven by growth, fueled by passion, and dedicated to crafting experiences that captivate and inspire.
What you bring to the role: - An expert eye for aesthetics, materials, and spatial planning
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Writing, research and project management skills are a plus
- A drive to achieve ambitious, best-in-class results with high attention to detail
- A passion for creating authentic and memorable experiences for public/family audiences
- A team-player mentality to support the work of others in a fast-paced environment
- A curious spirit, initiative to work without direct supervision, and ability to responsibly complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Interest in developing new skills.
Benefits: Fun, creative, collaborative, unique, and casual working environment. Medical, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, and more!
Compensation: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Our team of over 85 professionals offer a broad and unique skill set, combining design and development excellence with in-house engineering and fabrication for a wide array of exhibits and attractions.
Our central idea of "Building Genuine Human Connections" stems from our reflection of what physical "experiences" mean to the users of multisensory visitor destinations like zoos, museums and attractions. Why do people buy tickets and go? Many answers emerge, including a chance to tangibly experience the world with our whole bodies, rather than just our eyeballs; the desire to do things larger than ourselves, that transport us outside our routine home and work spaces within environments we find original and immersive; and the desire to connect with friends and family in a way that is deeper and more authentic.
We make connections between people and their world, their communities and themselves, using play, discovery, nature, participation, stories, and sharing. We do this in ways that are uniquely human, using the whole power of human thinking, feeling, social and sensory ability. And our ways are real and genuine, tangible and deep, more substance, more true, less superficial, less virtual, less hype. The world needs stronger, deeper and more genuine human connections. We need more opportunities to explore with our whole physical bodies, to be transformed by unique environments, and to do meaningful and memorable things with those we love most.
