JOB DESCRIPTION - Smart Money Coach (Bilingual Spanish) This role is based in San Francisco and is a hybrid between in-person and virtual coaching. Smart Money Coaching is flagship program of the San Francisco Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE). The OFE is a unique private-public partnership housed within the Office of the Treasurer of San Francisco that convenes, innovates, and advocates to strengthen the economic security and mobility of low income San Franciscans. BALANCE, in partnership with the OFE, offers Smart Money Coaching as a means to provide free, confidential, one-on-one financial coaching to individuals currently working, living or receiving services in San Francisco. Integrated into social service delivery, workforce development and public housing, Smart Money Coaching equips residents across the city to open a safe, affordable bank account, establish and build credit, reduce debt and save money. Our objective is to empower unbanked and financially insecure residents with the knowledge and resources to improve housing, employment, and overall financial health. Through strong partnerships with the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development, Human Services Agency, Department of Aging and Adult Services, San Francisco Public Library and Hope SF, Smart Money Coaching has served over 2,500 low-income San Franciscans.
In this position you will be responsible for conducting in-person and online financial education workshops, representing BALANCE at community meetings, and working with clients in-person or by phone to help establish a budget, and set goals to meet their financial objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to:
Work with clients from various socioeconomic backgrounds within the communities where they live and work. Such communities include Bayview Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, Tenderloin, Chinatown, the Western Addition, and the Mission District;
Provide one-on-one financial coaching sessions to assess clients' needs and develop specific strategies to resolve past and present financial concerns;
Create personalized action plans that support clients' financial goals and provide continuing encouragement to clients to successfully accomplish their established plans;
Schedule appointments for clients, confirm daily appointments, and reschedule appointments as necessary;
Conduct periodic workshops for groups of clients on various financial topics;
Collect, track and report required data using client management database;
Perform elements of on-going casework as needed to provide service and problem-solving assistance for client inquiries and account management;
Make appropriate referrals to other social supportive services (Ex. public benefits, legal services, tax preparation);
Successfully complete and pass the required training and participate in ongoing professional development;
Meet quality and service standards related to coaching sessions, productivity, outreach, workshops, and helping clients to achieve financial outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications Bilingual in Spanish Associate's degree from an accredited college
Experience in one or more of the following: financial services, financial planning, social work, community organizing, teaching or other related fields
Experience in community service such as volunteering, coaching or mentoring
Excellent interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Ability to use a client management database
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college
One to two years related experience and/or training (financial services, financial counseling, banking, credit and collection)
Experience working with clients from extremely low-income communities
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (Required after being hired)
Must successfully pass and obtain the following certifications within 90 days of employment;
Financial Counselor Certification from the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors (NACCC)
Money Coach certificate from BALANCE
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee will be assigned to work onsite with partnering organizations that are located in areas with high concentrations of poverty. Employee will be responsible for maintaining good rapport with site staff, clients and residents. The workspace is typically in a private office setting and the noise level is usually moderate.
