SUMMARY The Senior Math Tutor provides tutoring in math and/or science. This position works with students enrolled in Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) math courses in both group settings and individually.
POSITION DESCRIPTION - Provides walk-in tutoring in the Math & Science Center.
- Provides one-on-one assistance to students who need intensive tutoring.
- Conducts classroom visits to share services with students and faculty.
- Develops and facilitates workshops to support student learning.
- Creates and maintains handouts and supplementary materials to assist student learning.
- Participates in ongoing tutor training.
- Prepares and submits requested reports detailing services provided.
- Actively participates in strategic planning to align departmental services with institutional mission.
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including but not limited to Information Services, Online Education, Learning Services, and Student Accessibility & Support Services.
- Aids during specific hours at the front desk.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to decide of students' problems with math as well as develop and implement a plan to provide necessary assistance.
- Must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively to support learners across three campus locations, in traditional, online, and blended environments. This includes providing support to learners via video conferencing platforms such as Zoom or Teams.
- Committed to ongoing professional development, through continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and literature to keep abreast of emerging trends, technology, and best practices in the field.
- Customer Service mindset that is flexible and adept at working in a rapidly changing environment that may be ambiguous and complex.
- Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals, including students, staff and faculty with an understanding and an appreciation for the philosophy and mission of an urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education, Math, Science, or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Master's Degree or higher in Education, Math, Science, or related field.
- One to three (1-3) years' experiences in teaching, tutoring, or providing support services in an academic setting.
- Experience in post-secondary setting.
- Consideration will be provided for candidates with secondary teaching certification in math and/or a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours of college credit in math.

WORK SCHEDULE 29 hours per week, including late afternoons and evenings. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Availability: Monday to Thursday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM and Friday: 11:00AM - 3:00PM.
During Semester Breaks: Monday to Thursday: 8;00 AM - 5:00 PM and Friday: 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM.
