Overview:

Located on historic Bleecker Street, the Sheen Center for Thought & Culture is a venue where art and spirituality meet. The Sheen features a 273-seat neoclassical proscenium theater and a newly renovated, 80-seat, flexible Black Box – The Frank Shiner Theater. The Sheen Center also features an art gallery, rehearsal studios and meeting | reception spaces. The Sheen Center is a haven for the arts and provides a platform for provocative conversations about diverse and inclusive aspects of humanity as seen through the creative lens of faith and respect.

The Managing Director has the primary responsibility for planning and executing all contracts, preparing and supervising the company’s fiscal and event budgets and oversight of all financial operations. She/he works directly with the Executive Director in implementing the short- and long-term strategies of the Sheen Center. The Managing Director works closely with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors and Finance Department of the Archdiocese. This position provides supervision in the areas Production and Patron Services and represents the Sheen Center at industry and other events.

Responsibilities:

  • Finance & Management
    • Prepare and monitor annual budget for the Center in coordination with the Executive Director, respective committee chairperson, and department heads.
    • Work with the Director of Production preparing and monitoring all production and rental budgets.
    • Act as primary liaison to the board, finance committee and other appropriate committees.
    • Coordinate with the Director of Production preparing and executing all production contracts including licensing and author agreements.
    • Work with the Director of Production to oversee agents and artist contract negotiations and execution, and relevant artist unions for in-house and rental productions.
    • Create regular financial reports for review by senior staff and Board, including P/L, balance sheet and cash flow projections.
    • Prepare and submit final reports as projects are completed.
    • Review bill for payment and maintains accounts payable and receivable.
    • Record all cash, checks and charges received and prepare deposits in accordance with the financial controls policy.
    • Work with the Director of Production and Operations on building-wide branding opportunities and implementation.
    • Manage the Director of Facilities.
    • Interface with the Archdiocese on all HR matters.
  • Development
    • Represent the Sheen Center in various organizations and at certain industry events.
    • Assist in grant proposal language and implementation.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a director level for an arts organization with an operational budget in excess of $1M.Master’s degree required (or equivalent professional experience) in performing arts management, theatre management, business administration, arts administration, or related field.
  • Must be able to work some night and weekend hours, as the job requires.
  • An understanding and strong commitment to Sheen Center’s mission.
  • Ability to handle complexity inherent in the mix of Art/Culture, Religion and Spirituality.
  • Superlative communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Raiser’s Edge, and other relevant software.

 

Compensation range for this position is: $110,000 – $130,000 annually.

This position is considered exempt and not eligible for overtime.
