POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION The Recreation & Parks Department Flag Football League Staff performs entry level work in supporting the operation of a sports league or program and does related work as required.
An employee in this position handles fundamental assignments and skills to help ensure a safe, secure, and enjoyable atmosphere for all sports participants. The employee works directly with participants in a variety of age groups, skill levels, and programs. Work is subject to detailed instructions, established routines, and/or standardized practices and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - To create a positive, encouraging, and enjoyable experience for all participants.
- Ensure the field or facility is safe and secure; performs regular safety checks of playing surface and/or equipment.
- Organizes and arranges equipment for participants and ensures proper function.
- Officiates games or matches; supervises program participants to ensure rules are adhered to and the safety of all participants and spectators is protected.
- Maintains appropriate level of supervision, fairness, and consistency in all situations.
- Resolves participant conflicts with a calm demeanor and diplomacy.
- Assists with keeping a timeline to ensure games or matches are following the set schedule.
- Greets and assists participants; answers basic program questions and provides information to assist in the operation of the program.
- Keeps proper records as necessary.
- CPR and First Aid Certification a plus - class training/certification will be provided for those hired.
- Preferred: Basic to advance knowledge/experience of flag football rules.
- Performs related tasks as requires.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE - At least 16 years of age or older.
- Prior flag football officiating experience is preferred.
- Experience working with youth/children.
- A positive, problem-solving attitude in the face of challenges.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor in a timely manner.
- Organized and prompt.
