Bolt Threads is looking for a VP of Finance who will be a vital team member, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and dotted line to the President. This position is central to driving financial strategy, ensuring rigorous compliance with public market regulations, managing financial risks, and communicating financial metrics clearly to enhance investor relations and public trust. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Regulatory Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all financial practices and reports comply with SEC regulations and other applicable laws. Oversee the preparation and submission of quarterly and annual financial statements (e.g., 10-K, 10Q). 
  • Compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements. This includes developing and enforcing financial policies and procedures, ensuring the company complies with industry-specific regulations and reporting requirements
  • Risk Management: Identify and address financial risks that could impact the company, implementing robust controls and continuity plans. 
  • Finance Vendor and Contract Management: Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships, including payment terms and performance evaluations.
  • Costing: Track and analyze production costs, helping with pricing decisions and cost control.
  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and file various tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax. Stay updated on tax regulations and incentives.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare financial statements and other documentation for annual audits or reviews by external auditors
  • Treasury and Cash Management: Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, manage short-term and long-term investments, and optimize liquidity to meet operational needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Performance Management: Ability to set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability.
  • Team Development: Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and developing high-performing finance teams.
  • Transparency: Promotes a culture of transparency and accountability within the finance team and across the organization. 

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CPA preferable
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a financial leadership role, with a proven track record in a public company. 
  • Experience managing investor relations, including preparing earnings releases, conducting investor calls, and attending investor conferences.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and financial regulations applicable to public companies.
  • Proven ability to work with financial modeling techniques, forecasting, budgeting, and financial systems. 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills
  • Industry expertise (CPG, BPC, Fashion)

Preferred education and experience:

  • Board Interaction: Experience working with the Board of Directors and presenting financial information and strategic plans to the board.
  • External Audits: Familiarity with managing relationships with external auditors and ensuring successful audit outcomes.
  • Tax Strategy: Understanding of U.S. tax regulations and strategies for tax optimization.
  • Adaptability: Ability to lead through change, including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and market shifts.

Pay range in San Francisco Bay Area, CA
